To become a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a region needs to show that people and the natural environment are coexisting harmoniously. Put simply, the Isle of Wight can demonstrate to the highest level that there is a balanced relationship between people and nature and, that in spite of the modern-day pressures brought about by the progress of human beings, nature continues to thrive here. Over 50% of the Isle of Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The Island is home to species found nowhere else in the UK, plus you can see red squirrels and hazel dormice if you’re lucky! Newtown national nature reserve is is a twitcher’s paradise. The Wildlife Trust have activity sheets you can download and see what species you can spot on your walk – one of their nature reserves on the Island is Bouldner Forest near to Yarmouth.

If you want to give something new a try, they would love to inspire you by showing you how to make jewellery. Whether you’re a total beginner or hoping to further your skills, the friendly tutors are there to help. Their well equipped workshop is also available for private parties, so whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or spend some time with loved ones they can teach groups of up to 8 people.

Mostly they just really want people to come to the cabin, connect and enjoy themselves!

Experience far reaching panoramic views from high castle walls, or wander the moat to discover the bowling green of King Charles I. Enjoy the tranquil Princess Beatrice Garden, before meeting the famous Carisbrooke donkeys.

OSBORNE HOUSE
Osborne is the palatial former holiday home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, located on the Isle of Wight. Relax in the open air as you wander rolling acres of the magnificent Osborne estate. Take in the riotous colours of the walled garden, or enjoy the peaceful shade of the woodland walk – be sure to keep an eye out for red squirrels. Visit Victoria and Albert’s bathing beach and admire their children’s play-cottage for an intimate glimpse of royal family life. Stroll through the garden terraces and take in the same stunning views across the Solent that once reminded Prince Albert of the Bay of Naples.

APPULDURCOMBE HOUSE

Very near to here, Appuldurcombe was the most spectacular house on the island back in the early 18th century and today you can admire its ornate English Baroque architecture and detailing. Green-fingered visitors will also enjoy a walk around Appuldurcombe’s 11 acres of rolling grounds which were designed in the 1780s by celebrated landscape designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

ST CATHERINE’S ORATORY

A tall octagonal tower that remains from a medieval oratory. Check out the ruin, locally known as the Pepperpot, and admire the views beyond the coast. It was built in 1328 by a local landowner and is believed to have been used as a light house as it stands on one of the highest points of the Isle of Wight. Bring the sandwiches and take in the views – just don’t forget your camera.

There is a gift shop and cafe attached to the gardens and you can also access Steephill Cove from here.

It is a quirky fun land of imagination. They have put so much thought and effort into everything they do, making it fun for the kids and very pleasant for the adults. There are giant bouncy pillows, go carts, animals, soft play, ride on tractors, lego making area, giant play barn, climbing walls, zip wires, outdoor play park, football shootout, toboggan rides and more. There are indoor and outdoor areas so its great for all weathers.

At the farm but separate entry, they have recently opened a new water park there with giant inflatables, there is also archery and climbing walls.

The cafe offers delicious food and drinks. There is also a restaurant on site called ‘The Cow’ that offers tasty hot meals – you need to book a table before you go though.
